Johnny Beauchamp captured the second
victory of his career in the 1960 Nashville 400. The Iowa
driver had been the champion of the IMCA stock car series in
both 1956 and 1957.
Rex White would capture his fourth straight
pole at the Speedway. He would experienced misfortune in pit
stop strategy, which led Chief Scorer Johnny Brunner to remark
to the
diminutive South Carolinian "Rex, you lost your own race."
Ned Jarrett made his first start at
Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. He started his Ford in fourth
position but was sidelined on lap 73 with a broken right
A-frame.
Rex White would finish second in the
race but go on to capture the 1960 NASCAR Grand National title.
Crew Chief for the team was the legendary Louie Clements and future Nashville
competitor James Hylton was chief mechanic.
