July 20, 1974 - 250 Miles - Purse $40,260

The 1974 Nashville 420 took four days for an official winner to be declared due to protest made by Bobby Allison.  The Hueytown, Alabama driver claimed that Cale Yarborough gained a lap when the pace car picked up the wrong leader.  Allison claimed to NASCAR that even though Yarborough had taken the checkered flag, he was the actual race leader.  Officials at NASCAR - Daytona reviewed the scoring cards and and ruled that Allison was correct in his assertion.  However, they decided to let Yarborough's victory stand.
