May 8, 1976 - 250 Miles - Purse $49,787

Cale Yarborough won his fourth Winston Cup Grand National event at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.  The win was also the second consecutive win at the track for the South Carolina driver.

Yarborough dominated the event by leading 398 of the race's 420 laps.

The Music City 420 would also mark the initial start of Columbia, Tennessee's Sterling Marlin.  The 18 year-old second generation driver would go on to compete in 748 Winston Cup / Sprint Cup events, capturing 10 victories and earning $43,574,157 in prize money.

Veteran driver Jabe Thomas would make the last of his ten Fairgrounds Speedway starts.  His best finish was a seventh place at the 1971 Nashville 420.

Buck Baker came out of semi-retirement in 1976 and competed at the Fairgrounds for the first time since 1967.
